Diamonds are the hardest natural material, but the settings that hold them need a little care. A few simple habits will keep your jewellery looking as good as the day you received it.
Everyday habits
- Take it off for the gym, swimming, gardening, cleaning and heavy lifting.
- Put it on last, after moisturiser, perfume and hairspray.
- Store pieces separately in a soft pouch or their box. Diamonds can scratch other jewellery, and each other.
- Avoid chlorine and harsh chemicals, which can damage metal over time.
Cleaning at home
- Soak your piece for 15 to 20 minutes in warm water with a few drops of gentle dish soap.
- Brush gently with a soft toothbrush, paying attention to the underside of the diamond where oils build up.
- Rinse under warm running water with the plug in.
- Pat dry with a lint-free cloth.
Avoid toothpaste, bleach and abrasive cleaners. Be careful with ultrasonic cleaners on pavé or delicate settings.
Check your claws
Once a month, look closely at the claws holding your diamond, or gently tap the ring near your ear. If a stone moves, rattles or a claw looks lifted or worn, stop wearing it and contact us.
We recommend having your claws checked by a jeweller every 12 months.
White gold and rhodium
White gold is plated with rhodium for its bright white finish. Over time the plating naturally wears and can reveal a slightly warmer tone. Re-plating restores it and is a normal part of owning white gold.
